The rise of popularity and integration of hipster culture into mass media and fashion is an example of what was considered “anti-fashion” becoming fashionable. Instead of judging one’s value with economic capital like high-fashion and money, hipsterism emphasizes one’s value on “cultural capital” like dictating what is considered “cool” and being early adopters to novelties.
